This pass is important because it provides a crucial way out of the otherwise isolated Honku Valley. The valley floor is at 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) and includes several glacial lakes, such as the Five Sacred Lakes (Panch Pokhri).
Mountaineers often traverse Amphu Labtsa Pass on their way to climb peaks like Island Peak or Baruntse, which require advanced climbing skills. From the pass, climbers can enjoy breathtaking views of Lhotse Shar, Island Peak, and the Imja Glacier. The descent into the Imja Valley involves using ropes to rappel down steep sections.
